CJS 1430 - City of Corrections Credits: 1
This class will connect students to the world of the State of Connecticut’s Department of Corrections. Students will be introduced to the DOC thru an interactive lecture and practical exposure that will consist of various correctional staff as guest speakers. Students will learn the historical origin of the DOC, and how it has progressed into current times. Student’s will also be introduced to the organizational structure of the DOC and how it operates to ensure public safety, staff wellness, and efficiency. Student’s will also be exposed to various correctional jobs to include Correctional Warden, Correction Officer, K-9 Unit, CERT Team, Gang Intelligence Unit, Security Division, and Parole and Community Services. It will also be arranged for the students to receive a tour of one of the correctional facilities.
