CJS 1600 - Emergency Management and Disaster Mediation


Credits: 3

This course introduces student to emergency management theory, including basic definitions, identification of hazards, descriptions of the phases of emergency management, identification of resources, roles and responsibilities of emergency managers, and coordination of various systems. It also focuses on the principles and practices of emergency management at the local, state, and national levels and explores the concepts of preparedness, mitigation, response, and recovery. The roles and responsibilities of law enforcement, fire service, emergency medical service, public works, public health and others will be examined in assessing a community’s ability to prepare for, respond to, and recover from a wide array of catastrophes.

Prerequisite: CJS 1010  and ENG 1010  eligibility
