MUS 1511 - Madrigal/Chamber Singer I Credits: 1
The primary purposes of this academic course are the development of students’ musicianship and their vocal technique, as well as the study and performance of a variety of musical styles and historical periods, from the renaissance to the postmodern age, through the medium of choral ensemble. The course includes regular rhythmic, diction, sight-reading and vocalizing exercises, as well as learning of their own soprano, alto, tenor, baritone or bass part. This advanced course is open to all students in the college and requires passing a brief audition. Previous choral experience, knowledge of music notation and good sight-reading skills are required. In addition to regular rehearsals, students will participate in at least one performance each semester. This course exposes students to a “hands-on” quality experience in the arts. Students registered for this course must be also registered for a Chorale Ensemble course (I, II, III, or IV) or obtain permission by the instructor.
