MUSX 1531 - Jazz Combo II
Credits: 1
This course is the second in a sequence of college jazz combo. Students participating in this Jazz Ensemble course will gain and exposure and experience in performing standard jazz repertoire as a part of a jazz combo ensemble (e.g., the “Real Book”) and representing various periods and styles in jazz history (New Orleans, swing, bop, cool jazz, modal jazz, blues). During preparation of the musical selections students will be required to listen to recordings of works by the historical significance and stylistic approach of selected performance repertoire. Students will develop jazz improvisation skills and ensemble techniques and will be required to practice assigned musical selections outside of class in order to be prepared to perform these pieces with the ensemble.
Prerequisite: MUSX 1522 or permission by Instructor
