Small Business and Entrepreneurship Certificate (SBME-CC)

  • New students enrolling for the first time in Fall 2023 will begin as students of Connecticut State Community College under this catalog. 
  • Continuing students from one of the 12 community colleges will be transitioned into a CT State program in this catalog as of the start of the Fall 2023 term.
  • The policies, courses and programs described are applicable as of the Fall 2023 term and may be updated as circumstances require.

The certificate program is designed to prepare prospective entrepreneurs in the fundamentals of starting and managing their own businesses and to launch new ventures. For entrepreneurs who already have an established business, the program will help them strengthen their business and managerial skills. Students may complete the program in two semesters. Students should check with their advisor during the scheduling process to make sure courses are taken in proper sequence and any prerequisites have been met. Students will be able to apply the credits earned towards an AS degree in Entrepreneurial Studies.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Identify core concepts of entrepreneurship and small business management and their impact on society and the global economy.
  • Describe the legal and ethical environments for entrepreneurs and small businesses.
  • Demonstrate analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills applicable to entrepreneurship and small business management
  • Demonstrate information literacy through research skills and the use of technology.
  • Apply effective written and oral communication skills to business situations.
