This is an introductory course for the Automotive Technician providing the theory for a foundation in the field. Additional emphasis will be on the lube maintenance and vehicle inspection process. Shop safety, proper care and use of tools are included. Diagnosis of automotive engines and their lubrication and cooling systems. Included is engine construction, operation along with disassembly and assembly techniques. In the automotive field, the use of the oxyacetylene torch and the mig welder is commonplace. Automotive technicians need to be able to use the processes of welding and brazing, etc. safely and skillfully. This course offers both theory and a practical lab section so students will be both skilled and knowledgeable in all the welding technology covered.

This course provides students with foundational knowledge and hands-on skills necessary to operate, maintain, and perform light repairs on electric vehicles (EV). Topics include the principles of EV technology, safety procedures, and basic troubleshooting techniques. Through a combination of classroom instruction and practical lab exercises, students will gain expertise in servicing key components such as batteries, charging systems, and electric drive systems.

This course is designed for students with foundational knowledge of electric vehicles (EVs) who want to develop advanced skills in diagnosing and repairing complex EV systems. Emphasizing real-world problem-solving, the course covers high-level diagnostics of electric powertrains, battery management systems, and charging systems. Students will learn to interpret diagnostic data, address advanced fault codes, and perform repairs on high-voltage components. Through in-depth instruction and hands-on training, participants will gain expertise in resolving challenging EV performance issues. This course prepares students for specialized roles in EV service and repair.

AUTO 1194  Co-op Work Experience I  (3 Credits)  
Cooperative education is designed to provide students supervised practical application of previously studied theory. An opportunity to focus on the development of professional and technical competencies as well as on-the-job training. Students are responsible for finding their own placement. Each credit equates to roughly one hundred hours of experience. (300 hours)

Presents the overall operation of the service and parts departments. Topics in this course include marketing techniques, financial analysis, personnel management, work scheduling and distribution, and use of pricing manuals. An in-depth study of parts numbering, storage, cataloging, retrieval, ordering, and stocking management techniques will be discussed. Prepares students for the Automotive Service Excellence Education Foundation (A.S.E.) C1, P2 exam.

This includes various systems diagnosis, containing but not limited to, general powertrain, computerized powertrain controls, fuel and air induction, emissions control, and inspection and maintenance (I/M) failures.
