HLTH 1003  Investigations in Health Careers  (3 Credits)  
Designed to assist students in meeting the expectations of a health care curriculum and career. Students will become familiar with the rigors of higher education and the specific skills needed to maximize their opportunity for academic and clinical success. The course will include a comprehensive overview of the duties and responsibilities associated with clinical competency. Interdisciplinary learning strategies, correlating clinical and didactic education, life management skills, work ethic and critical thinking skills necessary for all health providers will be emphasized.

HLTH 1015  Current Issues in Health Education  (1 Credits)  
course is a survey of current health issues and concepts. The student will learn principles of nutrition, communicable disease prevention, stress management, exercise, sexually transmitted infections (including HIV/AIDS) and other elements of lifestyle that affect health and be able to relate concepts learned to the National Health Education Standards.

HLTH 1021  A Survey of Alternative Healthcare  (3 Credits)  
This course will introduce the student to alternative healthcare both alone and in conjunction with traditional allopathic (western) medicine. Students will examine the theoretical and philosophical foundations of a variety of alternative healthcare options and discuss their potential application.

HLTH 1051  Health and Wellness Promotion  (3 Credits)  
This course will cover the concepts of health and wellness promotion as well as disease prevention and how they relate to the individual, the family, and the community. Topics include nutrition, exercise, teen pregnancy, and other social habits deemed harmful to an individual and/or community. Conditions such as sexually transmitted infections, cardiovascular disease, obesity, and diabetes will be discussed. Emphasis will be placed on education and developing programs and/or finding the proper resources for various populations.

HLTH 1055  Personal Health  (3 Credits)  
This is a course on the physiological principles involved in the maintenance of individual health. Students will learn principles of hygiene, nutrition, communicable disease prevention, stress management, exercise, and other elements of personal lifestyle that affect health.

HLTH 1070  Medical Law and Ethics  (3 Credits)  
The legalities and ethical behavior associated with the medical practice or facility are discussed with emphasis on the legal and ethical responsibilities of health care practitioners. Federal regulations and guidelines pertinent to medical practices are reviewed. Students will develop an understanding of dealing with patients within a professional code of ethics. Basic concepts of office administration and human resource management are covered.
