ITAL 1011  Elementary Italian I  (4 Credits)  
An introduction to the Italian language and Italian-speaking cultures with emphasis on the development of the four basic skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing in order to prepare students for successful entry into the target language. This is a beginning course for students who have had very limited or no prior study of this language. This is a four-credit course with an embedded language lab component. Prerequisites: Students with previous language experience must complete a Language and Culture placement test or permission of the instructor.

ITAL 1012  Elementary Italian II  (4 Credits)  
A continuation of Elementary Italian I, this course builds upon previous introduction to the Italian language and Italian-speaking cultures with a continued emphasis on the development of the four basic skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. This is the second part to the beginning sequence for students who have had some prior study of this language either in high school, Elementary Italian I or life experience. This is a four-credit course with an embedded language lab component.
Prerequisites: Students must have earned a grade of C- or higher in ITAL 1011, complete a Language and Culture placement test , or obtain permission of the instructor.

ITAL 1020  Beginning Italian Conversation I  (3 Credits)  
This is an introductory course for students who wish to develop basic conversational skills in Italian. It focuses on everyday situations that students may encounter when living or traveling in Italian-speaking environments and dealing with Italian-speaking people in the United States. This is a beginning level course designed for students who have no more than 1 year of elementary Italian. It emphasizes practical, everyday and provides a variety of opportunities to develop listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills while enhancing cultural understanding and appreciate of the Italian-speaking world.

ITAL 1021  Beginning Italian Conversation II  (3 Credits)  
This is a second semester introductory course for students who wish to continue developing their basic conversational skills in Italian. It focuses on everyday situations that students may encounter when living or traveling in Italian-speaking environments and dealing with Italian-speaking people in the United States. This is a beginning level course designed for students who have more than 1 year of elementary Italian or have completed Beginning Italian Conversation I. It emphasizes practical, everyday situations and providers a variety of opportunities to develop listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills while enhancing cultural understanding and appreciation of the Italian-speaking world.
Prerequisites: A grade of C- or higher in either ITAL 1020 - Beginning Italian Conversation I, ITAL 1011 - Elementary Italian I or ITAL 1012 - Elementary Italian II, or permission of instructor.  
ITAL 1060  Elementary Italian Compostion I  (3 Credits)

ITAL 2011  Intermediate Italian I  (4 Credits)  
This course is for students who have already attained a working knowledge of the language. Students continue to develop and strengthen speaking and listening comprehension and reading and writing skills, as well as learn more about Italian-speaking cultures. Students are introduced to cultural and literary materials that will develop an appreciation of the arts, history, culture, and the literature of Italian-speaking peoples and create an awareness of cultural, social, and linguistic differences and similarities. Instruction focuses on oral and written communication. This is a four-credit course with an embedded language lab component.
Prerequisites: A grade of C- or higher in ITAL 1012, or complete a Language and Culture placement test , or permission of the instructor.

ITAL 2012  Intermediate Italian II  (4 Credits)  
This course is for students who have already attained a working knowledge of the language by either completing 4 years of high school Italian, Intermediate Italian I or the equivalent. Students continue to develop and strengthen speaking, listening comprehension, reading, and writing skills, as well as learn more about Italian-speaking cultures. Students are introduced to cultural and literary materials that will develop an appreciation of the arts, history, culture, and the literature of Italian-speaking peoples and create an awareness of cultural, social, and linguistic differences and similarities. ITAL 2030  Intermediate Italian Composition I  (3 Credits)  
In this high intermediate course, students continue to develop deeper fluency in Italian language skills with an emphasis on academic reading and writing. Students continue to refine reading comprehension, writing proficiency, listening, and speaking skills, and grammatical accuracy. Assigned college level readings, which may include whole works and academic writings, form the basis for small and whole class discussions and writing assignments. Students learn to appropriately integrate multiple sources into a research-based paper. Collaborative activities help students further develop linguistic clarity and accuracy, academic vocabulary, critical thinking, and development of ideas appropriate for academic study in Italian.
