This course serves as an introduction to the art and science of nursing. Learning experiences assist the student to integrate knowledge from pre-and co-requisite courses into the provision of safe patient centered care using the nursing process. Emphasis is placed upon developing foundational clinical judgment, communication, professionalism, and select fundamental nursing concepts.

This course builds upon concepts of nursing practice introduced in NUR1120C. The course integrates a holistic, family centered approach to the nursing and interprofessional care of patients, families. and groups across the lifespan. Focus is placed on the concepts of comfort, elimination, infection, nutrition, perfusion, reproduction, regulation/metabolism, tissue integrity, and fluid & electrolytes.

NUR 1126  Transition to the CT-CCNP Concept-Based Curriculum  (1 Credits)  
The Connecticut Community College Nursing Program (CT-CCNP) has implemented a curriculum revision that necessitates a transition process for students readmitted to the CT-CCNP from the previous CT-CCNP curriculum from fall 2019 forward, at all sites. As part of the process, this course eases the transition to the new Concept-Based Curriculum(CBC)and positions students for success. Students in this course engage in independent and group learning activities designed to familiarize them with concept-based teaching and learning to support successful transition to the CBC. Students complete learning activities based upon their level of entry into the CBC.

NUR 1150  LPN to AD RN Bridge  (3 Credits)  
This course is the didactic component for the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to Registered Nurse (RN) advanced placement program option for LPNs who are accepted into the Connecticut Community College Nursing Program (CT-CCNP). Emphasis is placed on the theoretical components of the first two semesters of the AD RN program with assigned learning activities to support a successful transition of the LPN into the final year of the associate degree nursing program.
Prerequisites: Admission to the RN program and permission of the program director.  
NUR 1152C  LPN to RN Transition  (2 Credits)  
This course is the final component of the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to Registered Nurse (RN) articulation plan for LPNs who are accepted into the Connecticut Community College Nursing Program (CT-CCNP) LPN to RN program option. During this course, students engage in learning activities to support a successful transition into the final year of the associate degree nursing program. Students are introduced to the concept-based learning environment and supporting course resources. Students are provided with the opportunity to practice critical thinking and demonstrate level competencies in the laboratory, simulation, and/or clinical setting. Emphasis is placed on the assessment and clinical skills necessary to provide safe, patient-centered care as a member of the interprofessional healthcare team.

This course is designed to further develop concepts of nursing practice delivered in NUR1125C. Focus is placed on the nursing and interprofessional care of patients, families, groups and communities with a variety of complex health care needs across the lifespan. The course focuses on the concepts of acid-base balance, elimination, gas exchange, inflammation, perfusion, regulation and metabolism.

NUR 2225C  Nursing in Health and Illness IV  (8 Credits)  
This course is designed to further develop concepts of nursing practice introduced in NUR2220C. The course places focus on the advanced concepts of cellular regulation, elimination, immunity, intracranial regulation, tissue integrity, and mood & cognition.

NUR 2226  Transition to Professional Practice  (1 Credits)  
This course prepares the student for transition to nursing practice by providing a more in-depth exploration of the concepts of leadership, professionalism, clinical judgment, and inter-professional communication. Students explore current trends in nursing and engage in multiple preparatory activities for obtaining licensure, acquiring post-graduate employment, and planning professional development.
Prerequisites: NUR 2220C (C or higher), SOC 1001 (C or higher), ENG 1020 OR ANY ENG COURSE THAT MEETS THE WRITTEN COMMUNICATION II OUTCOMES (C or higher)
