An overview of occupational therapy that describes the philosophy and theoretical foundation of the profession as well as the role of the occupational therapy assistant. Level I, observational experiences will be required.

A study of the human nervous system with a focus on sensory and motor behavior. The lab is a focus on anatomy and physiology including assessment of function.

OTA 2034 Documentation in Occupational Therapy (3 Credits)
This course equips students with the skills needed for effective clinical documentation across diverse treatment settings and to demonstrate knowledge of various reimbursement systems and funding mechanisms. Students will develop skills to create and refine treatment goals, develop comprehensive treatment plans and become proficient in the various communication styles and formats commonly used by occupational therapy practitioners across the spectrum of clinical environments.

A pass/fail course providing 20 hours of supervised fieldwork experience where the student applies treatment learned in Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA)courses and learns about the roles of other professionals involved in patient treatment.

OTA 2195 Level II Fieldwork (11 Credits)
Sixteen weeks of clinical training under the direction of an occupational therapy practitioner in the practice areas of psychosocial dysfunction, physical dysfunction and/or pediatrics.
Prerequisites: Successful completion of all Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) and general education course work, and Level I and Level 1 Advanced Fieldwork.
