This course introduces students to the topics and practices ofphilosophy. It surveys major philosophical issues and questions drawn from ancient and contemporary sources.

PHIL 1012  Bioethics  (3 Credits)  
This course is an introduction and survey course in Bioethics that will examine some of the moral issues affecting the daily realities of healthcare.Bioethics isconcerned with the ethical questions that arise in the relationships among life sciences, biotechnology, medicine, environment, politics, law, global issues, and philosophy.The student will investigate philosophical theories and principles, ethics, bioethics,and current laws governing healthcare providers' decisions and research. Students will discuss issues related to end of life, the formation of life, and research.

In this course, students examine the leading theories of morality and ethics concerning what is good, right, and just; the principles of good moral reasoning; and contemporary ethical issues.

Logic is the study of reasoning and promotes skill in evaluating persuasive language according to general standards of validity. Students are introduced to deductive and inductive reasoning skills and methods of evaluation. In this course, emphasis is on argument recognition, fallacy identification, and the analysis of reasoning in ordinary language.

PHIL 1605  Asian Philosophy and Religion  (3 Credits)  
This course is an introductory examination of the major philosophies originating within the religious traditions of southern and eastern Asia. Hinduism, Buddhism, Daoism, and Confucianism, and will all be viewed through the lenses of metaphysics, epistemology, and ethics to increase both knowledge of the subject and an appreciation for a diversity of cultures.
