HMED 0500  CPR Certification  (0 Credits)  
This course covers recognizing and handling emergency situations, caring for breathing and cardiac emergencies, performing CPR, and using an AED on adult and child victims of sudden cardiac arrest until advanced medical help is available. It also covers caring for breathing emergencies for adults, children, and infants. Basic precautions for preventing disease transmission are also included. Upon successful completion of this course, students will receive an American Red Cross certificate which is good for two years.
HMED 0501  Basic Life Support(BLS)  (0 Credits)  
Learn how to recognize life-threatening emergencies, perform CPR, manage foreign body airway obstructions, use bag-valve-masks (BVMs), and operate an automated external defibrillator (AED). Successful completion of the 4-6 hours BLS course results in a 2-year certification from the American Heart Association.

The First Aid and CPR/AED Training Course is designed to provide individuals with comprehensive skills and knowledge required to respond effectively to medical emergencies and provide life-saving interventions. This course covers a combination of first aid techniques, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and automated external defibrillator (AED) usage to ensure participants are prepared to address a wide range of emergency situations.

The Patient Centered Communicator Micro-credential is a review of professional communication, an essential skill impacting the medical profession and patients in today’s health care occupations. The focus is on specific skills needed to appropriately communicate with various patient profiles. Recognizing patients as customers while showing empathetic responses is critical. Elements of essential communications with the public and specialized communications techniques geared toward specific patient populations will be introduced. Effective questioning for healthcare information and listening skills are covered. Factors that negatively affect communication, such as communication barriers, blocks, and defense mechanisms will be discussed.
