Spa Technician (SPTN)
SPTN 0500 Esthetician (0 Credits)
This course will provide students with detailed instruction and hands-on experience in facials, waxing, chemical exfoliation, microdermabrasion, ultrasonic and advanced waxing, body treatments, makeup application, camouflage and airbrush makeup, basic aromatherapy, advanced facial massage, and holistic and alternative skin care using other exfoliation techniques. Medical terminology related to the skin will be covered.
Course topics include:
• Skin science including anatomy, physiology and histology of the skin, diseases and disorders.
• General science including the anatomy and physiology of the body, infection control, first aid, chemistry,
electricity and machines used in the practice of esthetics.
• History of Esthetics
• Practical Skills as related to Esthetics
• Professionalism and Ethics
• Fundamentals of Business Management
• Resume Building and Job Attainment Skills
Students will be required to perform services on other students as well as the public in our supervised spa clinic setting. Students will be required to receive services from other students in a supervised spa clinic setting.
Asnuntuck Community College is a PCA partnership school and participates in the M·A·C PRO Student Program.
Please be aware that students with previous convictions may find it difficult to secure employment within this field.
Licensure for Estheticians is required in the State of Connecticut as of July 2020. This program meets all requirements to apply for a Connecticut Esthetics license. Students can apply for State of Massachusetts licensure as well, if they so choose.

SPTN 0501 Cosmetology 1 (0 Credits)
The Cosmetology/Hairdressing program trains students in both theory and practical experience to become a licensed hairdresser. To obtain a hairdressing/cosmetology license in Connecticut students must successfully complete 1500 hours in hairdressing and cosmetology education, as well as pass the State of Connecticut Board exam.
This program is divided into 5 training modules. Each module is 300 hours in length. Each module includes theory and practical hours. A certificate of completion will be awarded upon satisfactory completion of all 5 training modules. If a student fails to complete a module it is the student’s responsibility to re-enroll in that module and pay the tuition accordingly. Please be aware that modules usually are offered once per calendar year. No seats will be reserved or saved for students re-taking modules. Students have the opportunity to take the Massachusetts Board exam after completing this program to earn dual certification in both states.

SPTN 0507 Nail Technician (0 Credits)
Nail Technicians care for the skin and nails of the hands and feet. Nail Technicians provide manicures, pedicures, hand and foot massages, skin care for the hands and feet, and nail repairs.
Career options include being a nail technician in a spa, salon, or med-spa, working with a podiatrist. With additional education, nail technicians can go on to become a certified Podologist or earn a bachelor’s degree in Podology.
This course includes theory and hands-on practical experiences during class sessions. Students will be expected to complete the required textbook reading and online/written assignments, as well as practice various nail application techniques, outside of the scheduled class sessions.
This course will teach students the foundational nail technician skills needed to earn the State of Connecticut Nail Technician license. This program is intended for beginners.
SPTN 0508 Eyelash Technician (0 Credits)
Learn the fundamentals of eyelash extension application, fill and removal. The comprehensive curriculum covers all aspects of lash extensions, including theory, practical application, proper sanitation and infection control, safety protocols, eye health and allergies, style guides, lash mapping, client consultation techniques, aftercare, and more!
Lash lift theory and practical application are also included.
This course includes instructor-led lectures, hands-on practical assignments and assessments, videos, worksheets, and online resources. Students will practice all applications on mannequins as well as live models. Students are required to bring in live models for practicum during specific class sessions of the program. This program requires the completion of reading and video assignments outside of class sessions. Students are strongly encouraged to regularly practice learned skills between class sessions to master application techniques.
Included in the course fee is the SUGARLASH PRO Trio Kit, SUGARLASH PRO online learning access, student manual, practice mannequin, and ring light.
