MUS 1001 - Music History - Medieval-Baroque


Credits: 3

This course is a survey of western European music from the Medieval Period through Baroque with an emphasis given to stylistic forms (i.e. plainchant, motet, opera, fugue), composers (i.e. Palestrina, Corelli, Morley, Vivaldi, Bach, Handel), and the cultural/societal impact on the music. The course will also review the elemental components of music (i.e. pitch, melody, rhythm, texture, and harmony). Students will be required to write two concert reports after attending two live performances featuring works from the periods covered in the class.

Prerequisite: Eligibility for ENG 1010
