MUS 1530 - Jazz Ensemble


Credits: 2

This course is a beginner level college jazz combo. While the class is largely performance based, the ensemble’s main focus will be to make the student aware of the prerequisite skill set of being a member of a small jazz group. Students will prepare repertoire from the standard repertoire (e.g., the “Real Book”) and representing various periods and styles in jazz history (swing, bop, cool jazz, modal jazz, blues).

Prerequisite: Must have some rudimentary facility with a musical instrument
