ECED: Infant and Toddler Certificate (ECED-CC-INF)

This 2024-25 Curriculum Guide is intended as a reference for Fall 2024 registration. The complete 2024-25 Academic Catalog will be finalized on July 1, 2024.


Students who complete this certificate are qualified to develop and foster a nurturing environment for all children birth to three in professional early care inclusive settings. In this certificate, the program of study is designed for students to demonstrate specialized knowledge that promotes positive outcomes for infants and toddlers and on healthy development including social and emotional development through observation, assessment, and documentation. Upon completion of the Infant and Toddler certificate, graduates are well prepared to assist in all aspects of a high-quality educational program that includes intentional teaching, supervision, guidance, and nurturing for ages birth to three and children at-risk. 

Learning Outcomes: 

Upon successful completion of the certificate, a graduate should be able to: 

  • Recognize and identify current and historical theoretical early childhood educational approaches specifically as it relates to all children ages 0 to 3. 
  • Apply child development theory to practice to all infants and toddlers including diverse learners and at-risk learners. 
  • Design developmentally appropriate curriculum for all young children ages 0-3. 
  • Practice intentional, respectful, reciprocal, and responsive teaching and care. 
  • Advocate for all young children and their families. 
  • Practice professional reflection. 
  • Incorporate theory into classroom practice utilizing standards, code of ethics, and best practices. 
  • Practice collaborative community education that includes area partners and families.
