- New students enrolling for the first time in Fall 2023 will begin as students of Connecticut State Community College under this catalog.
- Continuing students from one of the 12 community colleges will be transitioned into a CT State program in this catalog as of the start of the Fall 2023 term.

**A recommendation to discontinue this program is pending review by the Board of Regents. Students interested in this discipline are encouraged to enroll in Culinary & Hospitality: Hospitality and Tourism Management Certificate (HTMG-CC) .**
This certificate is designed for students seeking careers in the growing field of meeting planning. It will also develop and update the skills of those presently in the field. The certificate emphasizes the management of and services for meetings, conventions, trade shows, and special events. Students will be prepared for positions in such areas as independent or entry-level corporate meeting planning; conference, trade show, and association management; and convention/meeting services in the hotel industry. The certificate will also enable the veteran meeting planner to obtain college credentials in his/her profession. Furthermore, it gives administrative assistants and others who plan meetings as part of their regular jobs a formal opportunity to learn about this industry and enhance their planning skills.
Learning Outcomes:
- Describe, define, and interpret the requirements for planning successful meetings, conventions, trade shows and special events.
- Describe the roles of meeting planner, Convention & Visitors Bureaus, convention centers and event venues.
- Discuss the economic impact of the meeting and convention industry.
- Know the various career opportunities in the industry.
- Understand the vocabulary and acronyms of the industry
- Demonstrate knowledge of the financial aspects and budgeting for meetings.
- Understand the legal and marketing components of meetings.
- Describe how to choose the right location and venue for different types of meetings.
