SURH 2010 - Surgical Technology Principles and Practices

This course provides introduction to the basic concepts, principles and theories of aseptic technique related to the non-sterile and sterile responsibilities of the surgical technologist. This course includes an introduction to wound classes/closure/healing/hemostasis, biomedicine, diagnostic procedures, emergency situations and all hazards preparation. The course instructs the student in the principles and skills required to assist in surgical procedures for general, obstetric/gynecologic, genitourinary, plastic, orthopedic, ear, nose, pharynx/larynx, ophthalmic, oral & maxillofacial, cardiothoracic, peripheral vascular and neurosurgery. This class includes a clinical laboratory component.

Prerequisite: BIO 2350 , admission to the Manchester Campus Hartford Hospital Surgical Technology Program
Corequisite: SURH 2210
