DANC 1014 - Hip Hop and Dance Credits: 1
Students in this studio course examine the historical, political, economic, and cultural perspectives of the Hip-Hop dance genre (including Hip-Hop music) and lifestyle in America, and its worldwide influence. This course introduces students to the dance skills of Hip Hop with emphasis on general body technique and development, rhythmic awareness, rhythmic combinations of movement, key figures, and a variety of hip-hop styles. The course segues from the Bee Bop and Doo Woo era to the Lockin’, Poppin’, and Breakin’ era of the 1980’s then onto the 1990’s Street Style, and basic House, Voguing, Krumping, etc. to present day.
