Criminal Justice: Criminal Investigations, AS (CRJS-AS-CRI)

The Criminal Investigations concentration enables students to advance to investigative positions in their current employment or gain employment in an investigative position. It combines specialized criminal justice, investigative and general education coursework to provide students with the knowledge and skills needed in investigative roles. Criminal Investigations is one of eight available areas of concentration within the field of Criminal Justice .

Note: Current law enforcement officers may take courses in this track for professional development.

Criminal Justice Program Goals:

  • Complete an Associate of Science degree in Criminal Justice.
  • Develop skills necessary to secure employment within field of criminal justice.
  • Transfer into a Bachelor Degree Program.

Criminal Justice Learning Outcomes:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the roles of police, courts and corrections and explain the functions they serve within the criminal justice system and the community.
  • Apply principles of constitutional and criminal laws that protect the rights of and regulates conduct of a culturally diverse society.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of theories, principles, processes of the criminal justice system.
  • Prepare written documents and deliver oral presentations related to the criminal justice field.

Criminal Investigations Learning Outcomes:

  • Explain the practical, legal and logistical components of a criminal investigation.
  • Apply principles of constitutional and criminal laws to criminal investigations with a focus on 4th amendment standards of search and seizure as well as admissibility of evidence.
  • Demonstrate the ability to prepare written reports that integrate best practices for various types of investigations.
  • Identify career paths that focus on investigations.
