Law and Legal: The Law and Legal concentration provides students with an understanding of fundamental principles of law and analyzes the role and function of the American legal system within a societal and political context. This course of study develops critical thinking, logical reasoning and writing skills, and prepares students for baccalaureate study and law-related careers. Law and Legal is one of eight available areas of concentration within the field of Criminal Justice .

Criminal Justice Program Goals:

  • Complete an Associate of Science degree in Criminal Justice.
  • Acquire the skills necessary to secure employment within field of criminal justice.
  • Transfer into a Bachelor Degree Program.

Criminal Justice Learning Outcomes:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the roles of police, courts and corrections and explain the functions they serve within the criminal justice system and the community.
  • Apply principles of constitutional and criminal laws that protect the rights of and regulates conduct of a culturally diverse society.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of theories, principles, processes of the criminal justice system.
  • Prepare written documents and deliver oral presentations related to the criminal justice field.

Law and Legal Learning Outcomes:

  • Explain the history and development of state, local and federal court systems in the United States and as well as the current role and function within the criminal justice system.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of theories, principles, and processes of the criminal justice system as they apply to the law and courts.
  • Outline the rights and protections afforded to citizens under the U.S. Constitution.
  • Identify career paths in the law and legal field.
